Processing times vary significantly based on your relationship to the petitioner and country of origin. Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens typically wait 8-15 months after filing, while other family members may wait several years due to numerical limitations and per-country caps.
You may apply for employment authorization 150 days after filing a complete asylum application, provided no delays were caused by you. The work authorization is valid for specific periods and must be renewed as your case progresses. Processing times and eligibility requirements can change, so current regulations should always be verified.
Missing an immigration court hearing typically results in an in absentia removal order. You may be able to reopen your case by filing a motion within 180 days if you can demonstrate exceptional circumstances prevented your attendance.
While not legally required, immigration law’s complexity and severe consequences of errors make legal representation highly advisable. Unlike criminal cases, there is no right to appointed counsel in immigration proceedings.
Refugees apply for protection from outside the United States and undergo extensive vetting before arrival. Asylum seekers apply after reaching U.S. soil. Both must demonstrate persecution or well-founded fear, but the procedures and timelines differ.
Local law enforcement sometimes do cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Police should not detain individuals solely for immigration purposes but federal immigration agents have broad authority to enforce immigration law in Maine.
My name is Constant K. and I fled my country to seek asylum in the United States of America. When the Immigration Officer referred my case to a Judge, I was so disheartened by that decision. I retained the services of [Jenny Beverly] for my defense in the Immigration Court. Jenny Beverly has gone above and beyond in the collection of proofs to illustrate and strengthen my case. Her advice, the valuable time she devoted to my case, and her attention to details prepared me for my hearing. When the time came to be in front of the Judge, we were able to defend my case with confidence.
Being a former Lawyer myself, I commend the services of [Jenny Beverly] as one of the best, if not the best, immigration lawyers in town.
I thank Jenny Beverly…for agreeing to be my immigration attorney and for successfully obtaining asylum for me, reunifying my family, and getting us our permanent residence. I appreciate her deep knowledge of immigration law. I will never forget the work she has done for me and my family.
Jenny Beverly, I am writing this testimonial to personally thank you for the legal representation and services that you provided us. It was a very stressful time for us, as we were not sure what would happen with our application, nevertheless, I am extremely pleased with the outcomes of our case, that you personally handled it, and I will highly recommend you to others.
I very rarely give a testimony to a person or service over the internet, however, Jenny Beverly is so exceptional that I can’t even find enough words to praise her. I’ve known Jenny for 6 years now, during which time she has represented us with both our asylum journey and I-485 application for permanent resident status. Her dedication and patience were outstanding throughout this process. She always explained things clearly and was very helpful when it came to explaining complex legal issues in an easy to understand manner.
She is also very approachable, helpful, and available whenever you need her. I would advise stopping or calling [Jenny Beverly] if you are reading this review and looking for an immigration attorney to help you with your case.
Your work and experience made the difference and helped me navigate the whole process. I feel very fortunate to have found you at the right time after starting my case not so well in the beginning. I highly recommend you to anybody looking for a knowledgeable and competent attorney.
